Step One: New Gear - Shopping list: new joggers, new smart watch, new water bottle... WAIT!! STOP!! Before you waste your precious time and your hard-earned money, why not try new things, investigate, get to know your fitness likes and dislikes, and have fun doing it!
I know this sounds cliche, but, my best advice to you is to just get out there and start!
You do not need to wait until you can afford the very best gym or studio membership, a trainer, or the latest gear and tech. Those things may be nice, but your fitness does not depend on them! Do you have some old sweatpants and sneakers lying around? That should do it, you are now ready to start!
"Write a list of potential fitness methods and let the adventures begin!"
Okay, maybe there is one thing you need before you begin - a plan!
How To Create A Plan
Let's start with brainstorming. Have you tried any types of physical fitness before? Walking, jogging, running, gym machines, free-weight lifting, a yoga class, dance class, spin class, Zumba, group aerobics, at-home workout videos, outdoor biking, boxing classes, and the list goes on! Think about the activities you have tried and ones that you would be interested in trying. Write a list of potential fitness methods and let the adventures begin!
My go-to workouts are running and yoga. I love a good spin class and enjoy outdoor biking, as well as using machines in the gym. Our goal this year, is to try some new things! On the list: indoor rock climbing, hiking, and a dance class. What is on your workout bucket list?
Some methods cost more than others, but there are usually affordable options. For instance, my yoga studio holds community classes on Sunday that are free! Walking, jogging, and running are free. If you try them and like them, you could save up for sneakers or earbuds, any gear that you want to invest in. Keep your eyes open for deals, coupons, and even secondhand gear, tech, and machines. Ask around, check out your town's community center or local online groups for tips and events.
The important part is to get out there and try new things, move your body, discover what makes you smile while you sweat!
With love, Kathleen
